The significance of science to the mankind has been effectively summarized by Dr. APJ Abul Kalam,i.e.,"Science, more Science and still more science is needed to lay the strong foundations for the development and growth of an individual, a society, a nation and the world".

The School of Sciences offers Master Degree Programme (M.Sc.),Bachelor Degree Programme (B.Sc.), Post Graduate Diploma in Environment and Sustainable Development (PGD-ESD),Diploma in Applied Statistics and Computers (DASC),Certificate in Applied statistics and Computers (CASC), and Awareness Course on Environment (ACE). The School has also started the M. Phil Programme (Statistics with Applications) ,Bachelors Degree Programmes (UGSS-Sc.) in some single science subjects and also Bridge Course Programme for Science Subjects.

The curriculum intends to open new doors of systematic knowledge of the subject to the graduates of sciences.

The main aim of the B.Sc. Programm is to provide opportunities for higher education in science to in-service and other people living in rural/remote areas and belonging to disadvantaged sections of the society, and to promote scientific temper in everyday life.

A student who wants to take B.Sc. degree may offer one of the following combinations of science subjects:

Consequence upon the introduction of three-year degree course after the implementation of National Educational Policy, 1986 a student of 1st Degree course in the State Universities of Uttar Pradesh is required to study three subjects up to second year and two subjects in the third year. It is worthwhile to mention that the recruiting authorities in various organization required some specific subjects which the student has not read at the graduate level and consequently in the absence of which a student is generally deprived from getting the employment. Keeping in view the interest of students, the university launched undergraduate course in single subjectinthefaculty of Arts which has been a popular demanding programme of the State of Uttar Pradesh. Now this facility has been extended to science graduates too. According to provisions made by the university, a science graduate of any University can do his/her B.Sc. in single subject viz., a graduate of physical sciences group will be permitted to do B.Sc. in single subject in any of the Physical Science subjects. Similarly a bio group science graduate can do B.Sc. in single subject of any of the bio science subjects which are available at the UPRTOU. For example, statistics is a popular subject in physical sciences and blo-chemistry is equally popular in bio science subjects.

The objectives. of the programme are to disseminate information and exchange knowledge and experience gained in the pursuit of the goal of sustainable development, strengthen regional co-operation in environmental capacity building especially in the area of environment management, educate and train individuals from different walks of life viz., development functionaries, government officials, journalists, policy makers, farmers, industrialists, grassroots workers, environmentalists who have a stake in protecting the environment as well as ensuring a better quality of life for the peoples of their countries.

In the first Ordinances 2002 of UPRTOU, there exists provision for conducting two year M.Phil. Programme. The university in the first phase has planned to launch M. Phil. Programme in two subjects viz. Education and Statistics from the session 2007-2008. The eligibility for admission in M.Phil. will be Master?s Degree in the subject with 55% marks in aggregate(50% in case of SC/ST candidates).

It has been made mandatory by the UGC for undergraduate students.
